Strategy Challenges for International Telco 

Introduction:

A telecommunications operator, serving the business market in the Netherlands, has migrated its international operations to a reselling model. To adapt to this transformation and align with both national and international demands, this operator faces several strategy challenges. 

Strategy Transformation:

HorizonPlus worked with partner Sound and was entrusted with the responsibility of analyzing market dynamics, formulating a new product portfolio strategy, and devising a comprehensive plan for the portfolio rationalization program. The Sound senior Strategy and Transformation Manager successfully delivered the strategy, including management approval, within 3 months. Also, an 18-product rationalization program was designed and executed in two phases over the course of 1,5 years. Simultaneously, Sound identified the need for internal process optimization in the new reselling operating model. To address this, an internal governance process was established, fostering collaboration among various departments, and bridging interdepartmental differences. Through this process, Sound also discovered cost reduction opportunities, subsequently initiating a kick-off project that resulted in significant cost savings.

Results achieved:

  1. Design and approval of the portfolio strategy plan within three months.
  2. Successful planning and execution of the Product Rationalization Program, involving the optimization of 18 products over a 1,5-year period.
  3. Implementation of Process Quality Governance, leading to various internal process improvements.
  4. Identification and realization of over €1M in annual cost savings.
